Potato Gratin

From Dad. Cooked with Mum and Lorenzo and then much later cooked at Eastwood apartment. Takes an enormous amount of time for a side. Turn on top element. For next time: consider removing foil at end to brown the top better.

Ingredients

  • Potatoes 1 kg (8 whole)
  • Brown onions 1 whole
  • Butter 80 grams
  • Plain flour 0.5 cups
  • Milk 600 ml
  • Pizza cheese 0.25 cups
  • Dijon mustard 1 tbsp
  • Paprika 2 tsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Pepper to taste
  • Vegetable stock (hot) 1 cup (from 3 cubes)

Steps

  1. Preheat oven to 230 degrees (fan-forced)
  2. Slice potato and onion thin and lay across tray in several layers
  3. Melt butter, then add flour and 50 ml milk at a time while stirring
  4. Then add mustard, salt and pepper and cook for 5 minutes
  5. Dissolve stock cubes in cup of hot water and pour over potatoes
  6. Then pour sauce over potatoes, sprinkle with cheese and paprika, cover in foil and bake for 90 minutes
